Frequently Asked Questions
Below are some frequently asked questions regarding our church or any church in general:
What's the purpose of church?
1. To Love God Fervently- Loving God begins in the heart, with a personal relationship with Him. As we gather and participate in Christ-honoring worship services and respond to the preaching of God's Word, this love flourishes. Mark 12:30 says, "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment."
2. To Grow Together Biblically- We grow together, in Christ, through the study of God's Word. This occurs in our weekly services, in our Small Group Bible Studies, and in one-on-one discipleship.
3. Reach Others Passionately- We reach others as we find a place of ministry in the local body. We also reach out by sharing the Gospel with those who need the Lord- through witnessing to friends, coworkers, neighbors, and loved ones, as well as in participating in church outreach and giving to missions. As a church, it is our mission to reach the world with the Gospel of Christ. We want to utilize every available biblical means, and we want to disciple and train every member to participate in accomplishing our church's purpose.
What is the Gospel of Jesus Christ?
GOD LOVES US "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16
EVERYONE IS A SINNER "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23 Have you ever told a lie? What does that make you? Have you ever stolen something, even if it was small? What does that make you? Have you ever looked at someone with lust in your heart? The Bible says that looking at someone who is not your spouse with lust is the same as adultery. Have you ever been so angry with someone that you wanted to hurt them? The Bible says that this kind of anger is the same thing as murder. So, you have already admitted to breaking 4 of the 10 commandments.
SIN HAS A PRICE THAT MUST BE PAID "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23 Just as we can earn a paycheck from a job, the wages that we earn from the sins we commit is death. Everyone will eventually die. And after their physical death, the ultimate paycheck is an eternity in a place called hell.
JESUS CHRIST DIED TO PAY FOR YOUR SIN "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8 God arranged for an alternate payment for your sin: Jesus died on the cross to pay your wages.
YOU CAN ASK JESUS CHRIST TO BE YOUR SAVIOUR "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:13 God does not force himself on us, but he does offer a way to escape eternal death in hell. The term "whosoever" means that this invitation is open to anyone, regardless of their past, circumstances, or mistakes. It’s not limited by background, nationality, or any other factor. Jesus offers salvation to all who seek it. To “call upon the name of the Lord” means to sincerely seek Jesus Christ, acknowledge Him as Lord and Savior, and ask for His help in forgiving sins. It’s like reaching out to someone you trust for help. In the context of Christianity, it means recognizing that Jesus is the only one who can offer forgiveness and eternal life because of His sacrifice on the cross. The promise in this verse is clear: anyone who calls on Jesus will be saved. Salvation means being rescued from the consequences of sin (which is spiritual death or eternal separation from God) and being granted eternal life with God. Jesus died for the sins of the world and rose again, proving He has the power to save. Calling upon Jesus isn’t just a matter of saying a prayer; it’s an act of faith. It’s a sincere belief in who He is, what He did (His death and resurrection), and trusting Him as the only one who can forgive and offer eternal life.
Recognize your need for salvation: Acknowledge that we all fall short and need forgiveness for our sins (Romans 3:23).
-
Believe in Jesus Christ’s work: Trust in the fact that Jesus, God's Son, died on the cross for your sins and rose again to give you life (John 3:16).
-
Call on Jesus: Pray to Jesus, asking Him to forgive your sins and become the Lord of your life. This can be done in your own words or by following a simple prayer like:
"Dear Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I believe You died on the cross for me, and I ask You to come into my life and be my Savior. Help me to follow You from this day forward. Amen."
How Do I ask Jesus to be my Saviour?
What is baptism?
Baptism is an exciting step of obedience after salvation because it serves as an outward expression of your inward decision to follow Christ. While baptism is not a part of your salvation, it is one of the first ways to demonstrate your desire to obey the commands of the Lord. By choosing to follow Christ in believer’s baptism, you are publicly acknowledging Him as your Savior and showing others your commitment to Him.
Just as a wedding ring symbolizes the bond between a husband and wife, baptism signifies a Christian’s union with Christ. This union reflects His death, burial, and resurrection. Baptism also identifies a believer with the local church and its teachings. In the New Testament, those who were baptized were immediately added to the church, illustrating the connection between baptism and belonging to the body of Christ.
The Bible teaches that baptism is for anyone who has personally accepted Jesus as their Savior. The word “baptize” literally means "to plunge" or "to dunk," and baptism by immersion is the biblical method. This is because immersion accurately portrays Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection.
In Scripture, baptism always followed salvation. It was a joyful, immediate response from someone who had received salvation and wanted to publicly identify with Jesus. A Christian who refuses to be baptized is like a wife who refuses to wear her wedding ring. By not being baptized, a believer misses the blessing of committing themselves to Christ through obedience and forfeits the opportunity to publicly identify with Him.
If you have not yet been baptized since your salvation, consider making plans to do so soon!
